Baltic Sea is suffering from several environmental problems

Today is Blog Action Day. Lets make a statement for an improvet environment. The focus is on climate but it is not the only environmental problem our lifestyle leads to.

Baltic Sea is a brackwater sea which are under severe pressure from the surrounding countries. The politicians talk endlessly that something must be done. Still we see how ships empty their tanks in it and the surrounding agriculture are spewing out nutrition that also make algae grow rapidly in the Baltic Sea. We can some summers see when the different levels of nutritions substance are so high that the sea turns in to a brown, green goo that even the boats have problems to move in.

Something has to be done and this is many environmental problems are an international problem. It needs International laws that will be expensive to break and also one need an effective surveillance plus effective environmental courts. As it is now the laws are not controlled of the enviornments needs but the economics of the country. Make it then VERY expensive to break the laws otherwise there will be no change.

This is mainly a political problem where politicians try to avoid taking harsh desicions and instead our environment suffer. The problem now is that it may already be too late since the ecosystems are already finding new balance and it will probably be irreversible. Put some more pressure on your local politicians to make the right environmental decision and not only look to the economic side of the problem.
